In a recent development, the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Nagpur Police successfully dismantled an illicit betting racket associated with the IPL 2025 season. The crackdown led to the apprehension of a bookie engaging in unauthorized betting activities during a match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. The operation took place within the Ajni police station limits.
The individual at the center of this illegal operation has been identified as Amjad Khan Ahmed Khan Pathan, a 46-year-old resident of Taj Nagar near KMG Hospital in Ajni. He was reportedly conducting the betting enterprise from his residence on Mane Wada Road.
Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch Unit 5 team swiftly moved in and discovered the accused accepting bets while watching the live broadcast of the IPL game. During the raid, law enforcement confiscated betting paraphernalia valued at ₹1,83,700, which included mobile phones and other tools used in facilitating the gambling activities.
Following the raid, a case was registered at the Ajni Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act. The accused, along with the seized equipment, was handed over to the Ajni Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
